Obituary of Robert L. (Bob) Fortner

Bedford – Robert L. (Bob) Fortner, 80, of Bedford, passed away at 7:35 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 surrounded by his family and special caregivers at Garden Villa in Bedford. Born January 18, 1935 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of John and Blanche (Brown) Fortner. He married Phyllis Lavon Fry on September 3, 1960 and she survives. He was a retired farm drainage contractor and a member of the Dive Christian Church and the Cecil Martin Post #250 American Legion. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army proudly serving in Germany. Survivors include his wife, Lavon, of Bedford; two sons, Brad Fortner and wife, Karla, and Mark Fortner, all of Bedford; four grandchildren, Rachel, Shelby, Samuel and Silas; one great grandchild, Noah; two brothers, Larry Fortner and wife, Jill, of Bedford and Jerry Fortner and wife, Jan, of Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, John Jr., Jim, Ron and Denny; one sister, Marilyn Blackburn. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 3rd in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Johnny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Cresthaven Memory Gardens where military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of Cecil Martin Post #250 American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, July 2nd and from 12:00 noon until the hour of service on Friday, July 3rd at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
