Robert E. Bartlett

June 15, 1928 - March 24, 2008

Bedford – Robert E. Bartlett, 79 of 42 Greenbriar Drive, Bedford, died at 4:10 pm on Monday, March 24, 2008 at his residence.

Born June 15, 1928 in Lawrence Co., he was the son of Ermy and Esta (Smith) Bartlett. He married Inez “Patty” Yeary on May 5, 1956. He began working for Bedford National Bank at the age of eighteen as a teller. He attended business school in Indianapolis and banking school in Wisconsin. After attending banking school, he was responsible for starting the installment loan department at Bedford National Bank. He retired from Bedford National Bank as a vice president after forty-five years of service. He then worked at the Bank of Mitchell. He was a graduate of the Needmore High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bedford and Gillen Post #33 American Legion where he had served as post commander. He loved his God. The most important thing in his life was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an avid golfer, Cubs fan and loved farming and cattle.

Survivors include his wife, Patty of Bedford; children, Nancy Limp and her husband, Larry, Tom Bartlett and his wife, Dawn all of Bedford, Susan Bowman and her husband, Tim of Germantown, OH, Julie Taylor and her husband, Chris of Rock Hill, SC; five grandchildren, Cory Bartlett, Nathan Fields, Michael and William Bowman and Emma Kate Taylor; three step-grandchildren, John Limp, Tia Clouse and Sierra Hostetter; one brother, Ermy Bartlett, Jr.; one sister, Margie Deckard; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bernard and Bart Bartlett; two sisters, Imogene Blevins and Oweeta Mitchell.

Funeral Information

Celebration of his life will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Friday, March 28th at the First Baptist Church in Bedford with Pastor Kregg Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Ikerd Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, March 27th at the First Baptist Church. Military rites will be accorded at the graveside by members of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion. The family asks that friends consider memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church.
